Dapper D - One Year Strong!

Posted by

It was exactly one year ago that we launched www.DapperDFashions.com. The dream of having our own clothing line became a reality because YOU believed in us! Our journey began with a dream, $17,000+ on Kickstarter, and a lot of sweat and tears. We were honored to celebrate our one year anniversary with our friends, family, and Dapper D’s one week ago.

Our Dapper D One Year Anniversary Party featuring DJ WildFire, Amber Sweeney, and some of our gorgeous Dapper D Models (AJ Barnes, Laird Young, Barbie Jackson, Leah Gordon, Nan Zunkel, Darcy Johnson, Michal Mesa, Tasha Hill, Stephanie Johnson, Sparks, and Heather Broadway) was a night to be remembered! For those of you who weren’t able to make it to the party, we wanted to share the night with you via beautiful photos captured by our phenomenally talented photographer Elle Zober (www.ZoberImages.com), and our talented friend, Jason Lucey (www.JasonLuceyPhotos.com). There are a few photos below. You can see all of the photos under our 'Photos' tab on our Facebook page here:

DJ WildFire started the night off at Trio Club in Portland with a mix of today’s hits, Latin music (for Dapper D co-founder, Vanna, and her Argentine family), old school hits, and hot dance tracks. Friend of Dapper D, and singer/songwriter Amber Sweeney (and drummer Mike Snyder) opened and closed her set with a beautiful song she wrote for Vanna and Rasha, representing what Dapper D is all about: being Brave, Authentic, Bold, and being YOU. It was a magical moment for Vanna and Rasha, and the energy of the room was heartwarming. Throughout the night, we had the Dapper D Pop Up Shop, that our friends Sarah and Tammy helped to run. Our family and models greeted people at the door. The icing on the cake of the night was the Dapper D Runway Show! We were honored to have eleven of our gorgeous Dapper D Models rock the stage, representing beauty in every form. Rasha emceed the show, talking about each model, and short stories of how each person is a true inspiration. It was an incredible part of the night that got the crowd on their feet! After the Runway Show, Rasha and Vanna took the stage together to thank everyone that had been a part of their journey over the past year. It was incredibly emotional, and it felt incredible to share that moment with the beautiful people in the room. We were lucky enough to capture the Runway Show and their emotional speeches on camera. You can see it here, under the 'Videos' tab here:

Over the past year, Dapper D was successfully funded on Kickstarter because of all of YOU. We launched our online store. We took Dapper D on the road with the Dapper D Pop Up Shop all over Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. We were embraced by the LGBT community and our allies alike. We were able to donate some of our proceeds to charities like Our House, Human Rights Campaign, The Trevor Project, and Make-A-Wish Oregon. We partnered with our friends at Cupcake Jones, West Coast Leather, Inferno/Hot Flash Dances, and Emanar Cellars for different events. We were written up in the press in such media outlets as: Curve Magazine, PQ Monthly, The Oregonian, The Columbian, Portland Mercury, AfterEllen.com, The Seattle Lesbian, Seattle Gay News, Seattle Gay Scene, GO Magazine, Go Local PDX, The Reflector, About.com, VoxSiren, and the Woww Campaign. Dapper D even opened our first storefront just outside of Portland, Oregon, in Battle Ground, Washington in March 2015. It has been an incredible ride! – and we have no signs of slowing down!

Over the next year, we want to expand our line to include pants, jeans, and more Dapper D duds. We will take Dapper D on the road with the Dapper D Pop Up Shop to new cities to spread a little bit of dapperness into the world. We don’t only want to make a positive difference in fashion for the Tomboys of the world, but we want to make a positive impact in the lives of everyone we encounter. We want to continue to encourage each person we meet to: Be Brave, Be Authentic, and Be You.
